This letter is to tell you about my family.

My name is Doris.  I have four kids.  They are Bryan (12 years old), Dario (7 years old), Erwin (5 years old), and Mario (3 years old).  I live with my kids and my youngest son's dad.  His name is Mario.

My kids have been asking me if they could get into martial arts classes for a long time, but due to our financial situation, this has been a little hard to do, with four boys and all of them wanting to do it.

Mario is the support of the family.  He works for Carlito's Café & Cantina on State Street.  He was working a second job in the morning at another restaurant too, but they closed down.

It would be very nice if you could help us out by being our sponsors.  My kids would be grateful for your kindness in making this possible for them.

In March of 2010, our Executive Director and Head Instructor Lia Suzuki Sensei, got a call from a mother referred by La Casa de la Raza.  She told Lia Sensei that she wanted to sign her children up for martial arts, but couldn't afford it at other dojos.  La Casa de la Raza told her about our sliding scale and sponsorship programs.

The kids tried the class and loved it.  All were focused, well mannered, and driven to learn.  The mother told us that they wanted to sign up, but could only afford to pay $100/month.  With the father having recently been laid off from one of his two jobs, their monthly income is only $1,600.

In April, the boys started training.  The family purchased the uniforms and AKSB found some old, used bokto that the father sanded and finished for the children to use. We just need to find donors to cover the testing fees, summer camp fees, and the balance of the dues that the family isn't able to pay. Altogether, this comes to $200/month or $800/boy/year.

We're asking you to make a one-time donation or a monthly recurring donation of however much you are able so that these children can train with us, reaping the benefits of Aikido and bettering our community.  Even $10 per month makes a difference!
