)

On March 19th, kids and teens tested for their next belt rank in Aikido. We will now follow up on April 9th with a special belt ceremony, roll-a-thon and fundraiser. Friends, family, and supporters are invited to come watch the kids receive their certificates and belts and congratulate them on their hard work and accomplishments, while they cheer them on to do as many rolls as possible.

This event (and the weeks leading up to the event) will also be an opportunity to honor and support the people of Japan, who were recently victims of unimaginably strong forces of nature, causing them great loss and sorrow. Through Lia Sensei's connection to Japan, loss and damage will be evaluated and a percentage of funds raised will be sent either to Aikido Kenkyukai International Headquarters in Yokohama, Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Tokyo, or an organization such as Direct Relief International.

Aikido Kenkyukai Santa Barbara has received support from Japan in numerous ways throughout the years, including visits from senior instructors, mentoring, and even monetary donations. NOW IT'S TIME FOR US TO GIVE BACK. Please support the people of Japan.

Message to Japanese Members of Aikido Kenkyukai International from our Executive Director

On behalf of Aikido Kenkyukai, USA, I’d like to extend our deepest sympathy to any AKI Japan members who have endured any hardships caused by the recent tragic events in Japan.  I have received word from Takeda Shihan, Yamamoto-san, and others, assuring me that as far as they’re aware, all AKI Japan members are safe at this time.

We greatly appreciate updates and are thinking about ways that we may be able to help.

Please know that AKI Japan members and all the people of Japan are in our thoughts and prayers…
